Cookie Policy

Last updated: March 2026

This Cookie Policy explains exactly what cookies and local storage items Binx Professional Cleaning uses on binx.ca, why we use them, and how you can control them. This policy supplements our Privacy Policy.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. They are used to remember preferences, maintain sessions, and collect analytics data. We also use localStorage — a browser feature similar to cookies but stored differently — for consent and preference records.

2. Cookies We Use

Binx uses a minimal set of cookies and local storage items. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels beyond what is listed below, or any third-party behavioural advertising technology beyond Facebook Pixel (see below).

2a. Essential / Functional

Name Type Purpose Expiry
binx_cookie_consent localStorage Stores your cookie consent choice (accepted/declined) so the banner does not reappear on every visit. Persists until cleared
binx_geo Cookie (HTTP) Caches your nearest Binx location (North Bay or Sudbury) based on IP geolocation so the correct phone number and address are shown. Set server-side via geo_context.php. No personal data stored — only a city identifier. Session / 1 hour
PHPSESSID Cookie (HTTP) Standard PHP session cookie used to maintain CSRF tokens for form submissions (contact form, quote form). Deleted when you close your browser. Session

2b. Analytics (Matomo)

We use Matomo Analytics, a self-hosted, privacy-respecting analytics platform. By default, Matomo is configured in cookieless mode — it collects visit data without setting any cookies. No data is sent to Matomo servers outside Canada.

If you accept cookies using our consent banner, Matomo will set the following cookies to improve measurement accuracy:

Name Purpose Expiry
_pk_id.* Persistent visitor ID — used to distinguish returning visitors. Contains an anonymized visitor identifier; no personal data. 13 months
_pk_ses.* Session cookie — used to track a single session visit. Deleted when you close your browser. 30 minutes
mtm_consent Records that Matomo cookie consent was given, so it is not requested again. 30 years

If you decline cookies, Matomo continues operating in cookieless mode. Analytics data is still collected but only in aggregate — no cross-session visitor tracking occurs.

2c. Marketing (Facebook Pixel)

We use Facebook Pixel (Meta Pixel) to measure the performance of any paid advertising we run on Facebook and Instagram. The Pixel sends anonymized event data (page views, contact form submissions) to Meta's servers.

Name Set by Purpose Expiry
_fbp Meta (Facebook) Identifies browsers for ad conversion measurement. Set by the Facebook Pixel script. 90 days
_fbc Meta (Facebook) Stores click ID from Facebook ads (fbclid parameter). Only present if you arrived from a Facebook ad link. 90 days

Facebook Pixel is loaded on all pages. Meta's use of this data is governed by Meta's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Facebook ad tracking via Facebook Ad Settings or through the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada.

3. How to Control Cookies

Consent banner: When you first visit binx.ca, a consent banner appears at the bottom of the page. You can accept or decline analytics cookies. Your choice is stored in binx_cookie_consent in localStorage. If you decline, Matomo continues in cookieless mode only.

Browser settings: All major browsers allow you to view, block, and delete cookies. Instructions vary by browser — refer to your browser's help documentation:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions

Blocking essential cookies (PHPSESSID, binx_geo) may affect the function of contact and quote forms.

4. Changes to This Policy

We will update this policy when we add or remove cookies. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes. Material changes will be noted in the consent banner.
